iTear works differently from everything else on this page. Rather than adding fluid to the surface of the eye, it stimulates the nerve involved in natural tear production — no drug, no preservative, nothing instilled at all.

How it works

A gentle oscillating tip is held against the outside of the nostril for 30 seconds. That stimulates the external nasal nerve, which connects to the reflex pathway governing tear production — the same pathway that makes eyes water when chopping onions, engaged deliberately and briefly.

Because the tears produced are the body's own, they carry the full natural composition: water, oil and mucin layers together. No artificial tear reproduces that.

What the research shows
Manufacturer clinical data reports tear production on use, and improvement in tear film measures over a 30-day course of twice-daily use. As with any manufacturer-reported figure, treat it as an indication rather than a guarantee — individual response varies, which is why we'd rather assess you before you commit at this price.

Questions

Does it hurt?

No. It's a light vibration against the outside of the nostril — most people describe it as ticklish. Nothing enters the eye or the nose.

It's the most expensive thing you stock. Is it worth it?

It depends on the type of dry eye. Where the problem is evaporation from blocked glands, a warm compress and a lipid drop will serve better for a fraction of the price. Where tear production itself is reduced, this addresses the cause rather than topping up. Get assessed first — we'd rather sell a HK$288 mask that fits than a HK$2,880 device that doesn't.

Can I still use my drops?

Yes. Many people use both, and reduce drops gradually as natural production changes.

Is there anyone who shouldn't use it?

Anyone with an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker, or a nasal condition or recent nasal surgery, should check with their doctor first. Talk to us if you're unsure.
